Acts 6 – 7

In Acts chapters 6 and 7 the church in Jerusalem continues to grow. When some disputes arise between believers, the Apostles decide to appoint some leaders in the Church to handle the problems that happen when you put together large numbers of people.  One of these appointed leaders is named Stephen, who becomes the first Christian martyr. Matthew 23

In the entire chapter of Matthew 23, Jesus gives one of the most stern rebukes of the teachers of the law and the Pharisees. Remember that these were the people who were supposed to be teaching and leading the Jews in the ways of God, helping the people to see their hopelessness in themselves and their need to trust in God’s grace for their salvation and righteousness. Legalism Example

Recently at my place of employment, the main women’s restroom was being redone. This left just a single toilet for all the women in the whole building. This created a long line to the women’s toilet. This created lots of loud talking and laughter. This created one small problem. (more…)

In Matthew 14 we can read about the beheading of John the Baptist, Jesus Feeding over 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish, and Jesus walking on water. We will focus in on chapter 15 when the Pharisees accuse Jesus of breaking Jewish law. (more…)

What’s With All the Rules?

Sometimes people don’t like the idea of Christianity, or any other religion because of the rules. What’s the deal with all these rules anyway? Well God gives us rules (laws) to follow because he wants us to have freedom in our lives. That’s right. When you follow the rules that the Bible lays out, a greater degree of freedom results. Matthew 5 – Part b

In second half of Matthew chapter 5, starting in verse 13, Jesus quickly touches on many moral principals. First though, he gives a command in verses 15-16 to
